Wonhunderd Word Wednesday June 4

It is here again. WonHundred Word Wednesday! Enjoy the fun of one prompt and several authors creating different 100 word stories from that prompt. Here is this week's prompt, don't forget to check out what everyone else wrote too.

The biggest Independence Day celebration in the area was in the process of being set up. My parents’ friends and colleagues would bring their families.

I always wondered if their families were like mine. Perfect in appearance but twisted and torn inside.

My parents merely used me as a pawn to climb their social ladders, the “perfect” daughter had to make appearances at their grand events.

In all the years I've lived here, I never once called this place my home. Home is where people care about you, home is the boarding school I’d been attending since I was eight.

  1. I'm curious why Independence Day is significant. Because he or she is independent of his or her parents?

  2. Great character insight, "since I was eight" holds a lot of subtext!
